Jack smiled a little at the salute, it was... familiar, somewhere in his mind. "Sleep well, Doctor."
He turned and walked and he didn't look back. Just find the room, go to bed and go to sleep. That was his rather naive plan. His mind felt taxed enough to make him tired, so maybe he could sleep. Maybe that would work.
On the way to the room he lost his way. The first door he opened turned out to be a cupboard, the second was locked and only on the third attempt did he actually find the bedroom.
It was shocking to walk into the room. He could be under no doubt that it was his. It was styled like he might style it, with shirts laid out that just had to be his. Were he in any doubt that the memories in his mind were real then seeing the room sealed the deal.
He tried to sleep, he really did. He lay down and he was tired. He managed to drift, but then in that state his mind drifted too. His mind found the truth easier than the lie, and if he didn't know it was real he would think it nothing more than a dream, but it wasn't, it was real. It was snippets of reality that he never knew existed.
The sleep didn't last long.
When he woke he redressed in clean clothes and exited the room. Maybe he could help, do something else somewhere. It felt better than sleeping and remembering.
He made his way to the console room and called out when he got there, "Doctor are you her--" but he stalled and panicked as he saw the lifeless form of the Doctor lying on the floor.
He ran to him and moved down to his side. Put a hand to his forehead. Cold. He had to remind himself that that was normal.
