If he had it in him, he'd have laughed at the irony.
He glanced down to the water in the bath, black and stinking. The scrubbing against his arm hurt and revealed infected cuts and damage. Lacerations from the last time he was flogged that had never truly healed over.
He continued to allow it though, not that he could really do otherwise, and he listened to her as she spoke.
"Yeah well you'd be right there," he said, no love lost for Louis. "I met him," he admitted. "A week after they took me I got out, got all the way back to Versailles and he was waiting for me."
And on that he started coughing again, shaking him to the core.
