It would be all too easy to agree with him. Partly because it was the least revealing option, she thought. Casual compliance, and an easy peace. Or as much ease and peace they two were capable of. Mostly, though because it was true.

But she did not.

Very little in her life to this point had been simple. Why should she seek such things now?

Little space remained between them and she did not alleviate it.
